‘Potentially significant winter storm’ to hit Kentucky on Sunday, weather service says

According to a Wednesday afternoon update from the National Weather Service, a “potentially significant winter storm” is in the forecast for the Louisville area Sunday and Monday, with snow, sleet and freezing rain expected.

Snow is expected to begin Sunday morning and turn into a “wintry mix” during the day.

“There is a threat of significant icing over the northern half of Kentucky, mainly along and north of the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass Parkways,” the NWS reported.

Thursday

Partly sunny with a high near 42 and west winds of 5 to 8 mph. After 1 a.m., a 30% chance of showers with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 32.

Friday

Cloudy skies become sunny with a high near 35 and northwest winds of 7 to 11 mph, with gusts up to 21 mph. Friday night is mostly clear, with a low around 19.

Saturday

Sunny with a high near 32. Chances of snow are 20% after 1 p.m. with partly cloudy skies and a low around 22.

Sunday

Snow is predicted before 1 p.m. followed by a mix with freezing rain. Precipitation chances at 80%. High near 31 and low around 26. Precipitation chances increase to 90% Sunday night.
