First ‘significant and impactful winter storm’ to hit Kentucky Sunday, NWS says. What we know

Kentucky’s first “significant and impactful winter storm” is expected Sunday morning into Monday.

The National Weather Service is saying a mix of significant “wintry precipitation” including snow, sleet and freezing rain, is expected beginning Sunday morning, with the possibility of winter storm watches Friday. Throughout the day, snow and other conditions will impact areas north of the Interstate 64 corridor and into southern Indiana, with possible ice along and north of the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass Parkways.

NWS meteorologist Mark Jarvis said drivers should tread cautiously Sunday but roads will clear by Monday or Tuesday.

“Travel will become increasingly difficult during the day on Sunday and maybe even perhaps Sunday night,” Jarvis said. “There may be periods or areas Sunday where travel may not be possible for a time just due to icing conditions and or heavy snowfall that may occur in parts of the state.”
