Louisville inspector general wants probe of Omari Cryer death, says warrant had false info

Louisville Metro Police officials involved in the domestic violence investigation into Omari Cryer and those involved in serving the search warrant on the morning of his fatal shooting by a U.S. marshal violated several department standards, according to the Louisville Office of Inspector General, which called for a further investigation into LMPD.

Key documents were missing in the case file detailing the domestic violence allegation, false information was included in the case’s criminal complaint and in a search warrant in the case, and officers may have committed Fourth Amendment violations in the protective sweep of the property where the warrant was served nearly three years ago, according to Inspector General Ed Harness.

Harness’ office is unable to force an investigation by LMPD’s Professional Standards Unit but instead issued the recommendations in a public report released at Wednesday’s Civilian Review and Accountability Board’s monthly meeting…
