Every Growing City Needs a Candy Store
The Schimpff family has been making candy in the Jeffersonville, Indiana area since 1871. In the late 1880s, the local confectionery in Jeffersonville closed its doors. In 1891 Charles Schimpff wrote his brother, Gus of Louisville, and said he believed Jeffersonville needed a confectionery since the previous one had closed (and let’s be honest, every city needs a place to get sweet treats)! He suggested his brother move to Jeffersonville, Indiana to open his his own candy store so Gus, his wife, and son headed to Jeffersonville and did just that. In 1891 they opened the G.A. Schimpff’s Confectionery which is still operating in the exact same location where it began.

One of the Oldest Continually Operated, Family-Owned Candy Businesses
G.A. Schimpff’s Confectionery is one of the oldest, continuously operated, family-owned candy businesses in the United States, opening in 1891 and still in the same family. Today not only are they a candy story, but they have a candy museum as well. You can even see demonstrations of candy-making when you stop in for a sweet treat.

When you walk into Schimpff’s Confectionery you’ll instantly be transported back in time with old-fashioned candy jars, cases, and turn-of-the-century equipment. They even have a 1950s soda fountain, so you can enjoy old-fashioned soda with your sweet treat.
