Yared Nuguse of Louisville broke the indoor mile world record Saturday, winning the Wanamaker Mile title at the Millrose Games in New York City.
Nuguse, ran the mile in 3:46.63 to win his third consecutive Wanamaker title. He was a bronze medalist in last year’s Olympics in the 1500-meter race.
Nuguse bettered the world record of 3:47.01 set by Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha in 2019. The last American man to hold an indoor or outdoor mile world record on the track was Dick Berkley indoors in 1978 and 1979, before World Athletics began recognizing an official world record in the indoor mile…
