LMPD arrests man accused of running over teen, smashing cars with sledgehammer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – James A. Wells Jr., 60, is in custody after police said he struck a teenager with his SUV and then took a sledgehammer and attacked nearby cars.

Police received a call reporting someone had been hit by a car around 11:40 a.m. Thursday on Zorn Avenue near I-71 close to the VA Hospital.

Officers found an injured teenager who had been hit by what was described as a white Jeep. The victim told officers that the driver of the SUV hit his car. When the teen got out of his car to check what had happened, that’s when he was hit by the SUV. The teen was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital and is expected to survive…
