Severe storms are expected to sweep through the Louisville metro area May 1, potentially bringing strong wind gusts and heavy rain that could dampen Thurby festivities and races at Churchill Downs , according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Louisville .
NWS meteorologist Ron Steve said rain showers are expected to persist off and on throughout the day, possibly beginning as soon as 11 a.m. and lasting until around 8 p.m. Stronger weather, including high winds, lightning and hail, is possible from 1-5 p.m. for areas east of Interstate 65.
“It’s a really skinny line that when it comes through, it’s going to rain for about 15-20 minutes and be done … but the stuff that pops up later in the day is probably going to be the bigger deal,” he said…
