LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thurby came with thunder Thursday morning, giving way to a sun soaked afternoon at Churchill Downs as races picked up. Rain peppered on the first race.
Pat Ray picked number one, a horse named Can I Get a Witness, bringing his daughters and their families along for a 17-year tradition in his old Kentucky hometown.
His betting streak took off later in the day, losing that first race when he wanted a witness. He’s thankful there wasn’t one when he saw Secretariat’s Kentucky Derby win 52 years ago…
