The tired, old Louisville Tennis Center at Joe Creason Park needs development | Letter

A new tennis and pickleball center would be a breath of fresh air for our tired, old Louisville Tennis Center . Too many years have passed since the heyday of Louisville Tennis. I drive by the old facility quite often and remember watching the tennis greats including Laver, Rosewall and Newcombe that played there. The grounds now are generally unkept, and the building and facility are often closed.

I do question building something of this size from the get-go. The proposal is 36 tennis courts and 18 pickleball courts. Perhaps something about two-thirds this size initially, with expansion capabilities, would be more prudent. Also, the management of this complex is crucial, something way beyond the expertise of Metro Parks . If the facility is successful, expansion should not be difficult.

Finally, with respect to local residents, surely they know that this property is city property that can be improved and developed and be of service to many city residents. Their input is valuable and should be considered, but the project is worthy of support from all of us…
