Harvest Homecoming adds safety procedures 1 year after deadly shooting

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WAVE) – Organizers of the Harvest Homecoming festival are getting a head start on developing a new safety plan after a deadly shooting there in 2024.

In a post on Facebook, Harvest Homecoming Inc. said there will be an increased police presence, more barricades and updated festival hours. There will also be a chaperone policy in the rides area. Anyone younger than 18 years old will need to be with an adult who is 21 or older.

“The dedicated volunteers of Harvest Homecoming have been working in close partnership with New Albany Police Department (NAPD) and Floyd County Sheriff’s Department (FCSD) to prepare for the 2025 Harvest Homecoming Festival: Heart of Harvest,” the post reads. “In alignment with our mission to provide a safe, family-friendly event that unites our community our community, we have implemented several updated safety polices and procedures for this year’s festival.”…
