Mayor Craig Greenberg and members of the Louisville Metro Council knew about expansion plans for the Louisville Tennis Center long before they were publicly announced, developers behind the proposal said.
The $65-million proposal to renovate and add to the existing tennis center at Joe Creason Park drew heavy backlash from neighbors and community members after the project was officially announced in April , with more than 700 residents attending a community meeting on Tuesday, according to Metro Councilwoman Josie Raymond, whose district includes the park.
Despite the mayor’s previous comments in support of the project, Greenberg announced Friday he would no longer back plans from Kentucky Tennis and Pickleball Center, Inc. — which would have required the nonprofit to lease city land and called for a $20-million bond issued by the city — citing “insurmountable barriers.”…
