Labor/Delivery services returning to South Louisville after 50 years

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – For the first time since 1974, mothers in South Louisville will soon be able to deliver babies at a hospital close to home.

Construction continues on the $20 million project that will offer labor and delivery services at UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital. Monday, WAVE News took a behind-the- scenes tour of what will soon become The Birthing Place.

“This is going to be the first time in a very long time that we’ll be able to deliver babies on the west side of I-65 in Louisville,” said Tara Garris, Director of Women Services at Mary & Elizabeth Hospital. “A zip code that has a very large population of pregnant women so really excited to be right in there in their community.”…
