JCPS to cut close to $100 million of its upcoming budget

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – As Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) adjusts to the loss of federal COVID-19 relief funds, district leaders are getting ready to cut close to $100 million from the district’s upcoming budget.

“When we talked about increased hours for employees, overtime, additional programming, summer hours for administrators to work, all of these things were funded with ESSER dollars,” Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio said. “So really, coming out of COVID funding is what really led to this.”

Dr. Marty Pollio said, as of now, they won’t have to get rid of any positions within the district, but offerings like after-school tutoring contracts and summer programming may get cut due to these budget adjustments. He added, in an effort to plan ahead, renovations for athletic facilities at local schools would be delayed…
