Louisville officials warn of new text message scam for unpaid fines

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office says it’s received “an influx of phone calls” about a text scam targeting Louisville residents.

According to officials, the fraudulent texts impersonate DMV Enforcement or EZPass Collections saying they have unpaid toll fees or traffic violation fines. The scam texts also threaten legal penalties if action isn’t taken immediately.

“Please keep in mind that the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office does NOT send text messages,” a spokesperson said Monday. “If you receive a suspicious text like this, DO NOT click on any links or respond. Stay safe and help us spread this message!”…
