Business owner files trademark lawsuit in fight to keep decades-old animal control operation

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A business owner WAVE has received complaints about many times before has been slapped with a federal lawsuit accusing him of trademark infringement.

Beau Gast owns the Humane Wildlife Control Services, LLC, operating under 30 assumed names. In 2021, one of those names had previously caused a lot of confusion for customers of Louisville Metro Animal Services, when Gast’s business, Jefferson County Animal Control, was providing animal pickups for a fee, something LMAS does not do.

At that time, WAVE learned that Gast had been fired from LMAS as an animal control officer but was operating a private business. He had also received a citation from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife for handling wildlife with an expired permit…
