FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) – The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold a series of public hearings for the public to give comments regarding Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities’ (KU) joint application seeking approval for Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for the construction of two approximately 645 MW net summer rating natural gas combined cycle combustion turbine (NGCC) facilities.
One of the units will be located at KU’s E.W. Brown Generating Station in Mercer County, while the other will be at LG&E’s Mill Creek Generating Station in Jefferson County. The projects also include on-site natural gas and electric transmission construction associated with those facilities.
Also in the application, the companies ask to construct a 400 MW, 4-hour 1600 megawatt hour (MWh)) lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) facility at LG&E’s Cane Run Generation Station in Jefferson County. Further, KU seeks a CPCN to construct a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) facility at its Ghent Generating Station in Carroll County.
