Teens providing older adults with free lawn care

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Temperatures across Louisville have been reaching the mid-90s this summer, making it more difficult for older adults to take care of their lawns. 50/50 Mentoring Collaborative founded the Taylor-Berry Beautification Project to help.

“Our seniors, 55 and older, who cannot get out and cut their own yard, these youths that are a part of our program are able to do just that,” said Nicole Hayden, founder and director of 50/50 Mentoring Collaborative, “We want to take some of that pressure off of them but also show them that there are people in your community that care about you as well.”

The Taylor-Berry Beautification Project is a South Louisville initiative that provides teens with paid opportunities to get hands-on work experience, leadership skills and violence prevention tools by providing lawn-care services, park cleanup, art installation and more…
