Family files wrongful death lawsuit for man who died in Louisville jail

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The family of a 34-year-old man who died in the Louisville jail last May is suing Metro Government, the jail and three officers, saying his death could have been prevented.

Richard Graham died May 19, 2024 around 3 a.m. from a multiple drug overdose. Graham had two types of fentanyl, MDMA and other drugs in his system. Graham had been in the jail for less than 18 hours.

“I believe he died of a fentanyl overdose, and the question is –which is really immaterial. He either brought the fentanyl into jail and consumed it, or he got it from a guard or an inmate in the jail,” Attorney John Little, who’s representing the family, said. “Either way, the jail is liable, because you shouldn’t be able to bring drugs into jail or obtain drugs while you’re in jail.”…
