Louisville police officer under investigation for drinking while on duty resigns

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) officer resigned before being terminated for drinking while on duty, according to a May memorandum.

LMPD’s Professional Standards Unit began investigating Officer Blake Cooper after officers reported smelling alcohol on his breath last November. Cooper said he drank with his wife the night before to celebrate her getting into college, and explained his breath smelled like alcohol because he hadn’t brushed his teeth.

Although he denied drinking before his shift, other officers said his behavior was unusual…
