In 2020, Breonna Taylor was shot by a police officer during a raid on her home in Kentucky. The former Louisville Metro Police detective, Brett Hankison, blindly shot 10 bullets in Taylor’s room. Taylor died from wounds from six bullets.
Last week, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that Hankison, who was charged with deprivation of rights under color of law in November last year, would seek a sentence of only one day.
DOJ argued that while Hankison “was part of the team executing the warrant, Defendant Hankison did not shoot Ms. Taylor and is not otherwise repsonsible for her death.”…
