FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 29, 2025) –Attorney General Russell Coleman announced today action by the Attorney General’s Violent Crime Reduction Team (VRT) has led to the indictment of another convicted felon. The Louisville-based VRT is part of the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit, which to date, has secured 73 felony indictments and six convictions.
This week, Richard Wallace Williams III, 56, was indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury on a charge of Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon (Class C Felony), Obscuring the Identity of a Machine Over $500, but Less Than $10,000 (Class D Felony) and Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree. Williams is set to be arraigned August 4th.
According to court documents, on June 12, 2025, Williams, who was in possession of a handgun, “removed, defaced, covered, altered, destroyed, or otherwise obscured the manufacturer’s serial number” on a vehicle with the intent of making it unidentifiable.
