LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – When my son got his service dog Wink from Canine Companions in August of 2019, I didn’t realize just how much she would help him.
Colt was born with a congenital heart defect, had open heart surgery at two days old, and suffered a cardiac arrest at four weeks old and was flatlined for 20 minutes. The cardiac surgeon had to reopen his chest and manually pump his heart to get it going again. Thank goodness he survived but as a result he was low tone, had speech delays, and bilateral hearing loss.
Today, at 16-years old, Colt is strong, independent in many areas, and speaks so clearly. That’s in great part to Wink…
