Louisville football’s defensive line took a massive hit this offseason when the Cardinals lost some key pieces from their 2024 roster. However, it could have been far less severe if star defensive tackle Jared Dawson had returned to the Cardinals rather than entering the Transfer Portal.
This defensive line proved yesterday that it has a high ceiling with the returners it brought back and the transfers it brought in, but the line could have been even better with the key experience and explosiveness that Dawson brings to the table. Well, the former Cardinal has now learned that he is paying the price in his sixth year, as he won’t be a starter for his new team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Fighting Irish have a top-ten blockbuster showdown on the road this evening against Louisville’s ACC rival, the Miami Hurricanes. Dawson will play in the familiar city, but rather than getting reps with the first line and starting, he learned he is coming off the bench for Chris Ash and his defense.
The 6-foot-2, 305-pound lineman took a big leap in 2022 and 2023, where he earned 30 tackles, 7.0 for a loss, 5.0 sacks, one pass deflection, and one forced fumble in the two seasons. He then carried that momentum into last season, where he was a crucial piece of the Cardinals’ defensive line and earned even two starts in 2024…
