Jefferson County Public Schools in Kentucky is calling it a “culture shift” – and the numbers back it up.Less than a month into the district’s first school year with a comprehensive cell phone ban, students are checking out library books at unprecedented rates. The policy, implemented following new state legislation prohibiting cell phone use during class and lunch periods, appears to be driving behavioral changes beyond what administrators initially expected.At Pleasure Ridge Park High School, students checked out more than 1,000 books in just the first 17 days of school. By comparison, the entire previous school year saw just over 2,100 book checkouts.
