Downtown Louisville transforms parking spots into social gathering places for a day

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Some parking spots in downtown Louisville were converted to pop-up parks.

The one-day initiative Sept. 19 sponsored by the city of Louisville called Park(ing) Day along Main Street (from Interstate 65 to 9th Street) and 4th Street (from Main to Broadway).

According to the city’s website, Park(ing) Day is “a global public, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces for one day and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener, and more equitable streets for people.”

The first Park(ing) Day was in San Francisco in 2005 and is now celebrated in cities across the world…
