‘We don’t believe that there was misuse of funds anywhere,’ JCPS facing $188 million deficit and looking at all options to increase revenue

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jefferson County Board of Education has until January to receive a 2026-27 budget that addresses the district’s $188 million deficit. The board then has until September to approve it.

The working deficit right now is $188,462,757, and more budget reductions will be needed for the 2026-27 school year.
