Pewee Valley Fire Protection District adds drone to arsenal

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Pewee Valley Fire Protection District is getting a major technology upgrade by adding a drone to the department’s toolbox. The department’s chief tells WAVE news it’s a new way to save time and improve firefighters’ safety during emergency responses.

“With this technology the drone has, we can fly the drone in place,” Chief Matt York said. “I can have it in the air in less than a minute.”

The drone can be used to locate people or obstacles on the ground from hundreds of feet away, or provide better visibility for response crews. It also has the ability to use infrared and thermal imaging and track a target subject with AI…
