Judge orders Louisville man portrayed as ‘leader’ in mob-connected, rigged poker games put on house arrest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Federal Magistrate Regina Edwards ordered 67-year-old Robert Stroud to be released to house arrest Tuesday, overruling the government’s effort to keep Stroud in jail until trial. Edwards also ordered Stroud to sign a $100,000 bond. He’ll only pay that if he fails to appear in court.

Federal prosecutor Mac Shannon relied heavily on a detention letter sent by the US Attorney’s office in the Eastern District of New York. The letter argued Stroud should be considered a leader in the poker conspiracy. The letter was not made public as part of Stroud’s court case in Kentucky.
