Louisville food bank sounds alarm as SNAP benefits expected to run out Nov. 1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A local food bank that has been serving the Louisville community for more than 50 years is sounding the alarm as the government shutdown threatens to eliminate food assistance for millions of families.

As the federal government shutdown stretches into its 30th day, Dare to Care Food Bank is warning the community that federal nutrition programs, like SNAP, will end on Saturday, Nov. 1.

This will trigger $16 million in monthly food assistance to be removed from Jefferson County alone, according to Dare to Care. Tens of thousands of children, seniors, and working families will also lose their ability to buy food…
