LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Food pantries in Louisville and Southern Indiana say they are starting to run out of food as demand increases, with organizations expressing concern about helping neighbors in need in the coming weeks, as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients may not receive their November benefits.
Louisville nonprofit Change Today, Change Tomorrow held a free food giveaway at the Portland Community Center, where a line formed outside the door 30 minutes before the noon start time, on Wednesday. Paulesha McLean, a volunteer with the group, said similar crowds appear every week.
“We have a range of all kinds of people,” she said. “And it’s just not from the West. We serve a big, wide community.”…
