LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – On Wednesday, WAVE News went inside the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center to learn more about how the department is using security cameras from everyday people and businesses for public safety.
“It makes our officers more effective in their response time, makes them more precise, and it makes our communication with that officer when they’re coming on that scene just a lot more effective,” said Corey Robinson, Assistant Chief, LMPD. “We have 273 registered cameras and another 1,392 cameras that are integrated.”
According to LMPD, there are two levels of participation. For Level 1, participants would register their cameras. According to the website for CONNECT Louisville, “Registering your cameras does not allow the Louisville Metro Police Department access to your live video stream – it only enables investigators to know a camera is present at your location and easily request video evidence should an incident occur. “…
