CLARK CO. – A 22-year-old Tennessee man was arrested Monday afternoon after leading Indiana State Police troopers on a pursuit that ended with a successful Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver on Interstate 65.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., Indiana State Police dispatch received multiple calls reporting an orange 2012 Jeep traveling southbound on I-65 in Scott County driving erratically. Trooper Justin Mears and Probationary Trooper Devin Hopkins responded and located the vehicle near Henryville. Upon catching up to the Jeep, troopers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to yield, weaving across lanes, traveling on the right shoulder, and nearly striking the guardrail.
The Jeep continued southbound, crossing lanes and driving on the shoulder. Deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Sellersburg Police Department deployed stop sticks near the Sellersburg exit, successfully deflating multiple tires. Despite the disabled tires, the driver continued fleeing.
Near the 7-mile marker, Trooper Dustin Whitaker joined the pursuit and executed a PIT maneuver. Although the Jeep initially stopped, the driver re-accelerated and continued southbound.
