New Albany, Ind. (WAVE) – The City of New Albany and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) have reached an agreement in an ongoing lawsuit, paving the way for the removal of the Providence Mill Dam.
In a statement on Thursday, Dec. 4, New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan announced the resolution between the two parties that will see the dam’s removal from Silver Creek.
DNR originally filed against the city in August of 2024 as a measure to stop and reverse New Albany’s placement of a rockfill at the base of the dam, a decision that Mayor Gahan announced in the wake of the death of 14-year-old Andre Edwards, Jr., who drowned while swimming at the dam in May of the same year…
