Beloved Highlands staple faces uncertain future as anchor tenants announce departures

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville neighborhood known for its character and community is bracing for major economic changes as longtime anchor tenants at the Mid City Mall prepare to leave.

Baxter Avenue Theatres, a fixture along Bardstown Road for nearly three decades, announced it will close as soon as next week. Apex Entertainment officials confirmed December 31 will be the theater’s final day of operation.

“It looks old when you get in there, but it’s still comfortable,” said Louisville resident Judy Miller. “I’m sorry to hear it, because I thought there would be a whole lot of people coming that would make it feasible.”…
