Man killed in house fire attempting to save family pet

HENRYVILLE, Ind. (WAVE) – Officials say a man died in Clark County, Indiana while trying to rescue a family pet from a burning home.

The fire happened at a home on Speith Road at 5:17 p.m., January 4. Battalion Chief Jared Phillips of Monroe Township Fire, said crews from his agency, along with Tri Township and Sellersburg, responded to the call which originally was for a 911 open line. The dispatcher heard yelling on the open line and the sound of a smoke detector going off.

Fire crews heading to the scene were told the fire was in the garage, but when they arrived five minutes after being dispatched, the home was almost completely in flames…
