You don’t know Zachary Taylor Elementary. And you should.

The superintendent proposes closing it, along with King Elementary. In the middle of a budget crisis, his reasoning is sound. The school is underenrolled, making the cost to educate each child much higher than the district average. The school building is significantly past its useful life and needs costly repairs.

But schools aren’t just numbers. They’re places where children grow, where communities find stability and where the district’s values are tested…
