Kentucky family troubled by bill that would prevent son from ever seeking office

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A family from Mt. Washington, Kentucky, is raising concerns over a proposal by a state lawmaker to prevent immigrants from holding elected office.

State Rep. Shane Baker (R-Somerset), the sponsor of House Bills 186 and 259, tells WHAS11 the measures are about electing people who are ‘committed to western values.’

If approved, one of the bills, which would require a vote to amend the state constitution, would mandate that Kentucky citizens be born in the United States to hold most elected positions, from governor to local school board…
