Ohio River Valley Weather Alert: Ice-Affected Gauges and Minor Flooding Through Tuesday

Louisville, KY – Rivers across the Ohio Valley are showing signs of strain as frigid Arctic air and recent heavy rainfall disrupt water flow, with ice jams and localized flooding now a concern into early this week.

According to the National Weather Service’s Ohio River Forecast Center, gauges on the East Fork White River near Seymour, Indiana, are becoming ice-affected as temperatures remain below freezing. Observed water levels reached 6.25 feet late Monday morning—well below flood stage, but enough to cause concern if ice continues to impact flow.

In eastern Kentucky, 1.5 to 2.5 inches of weekend rain triggered minor flood conditions along the Kentucky River. Action stages were reached at gauges in Heidelberg and Ravenna, while forecasts for Clay City remain under close watch.
