Maddie Weiner didn’t exactly grow up dreaming of movie sets. She didn’t point a camcorder at her friends at twelve and declare a future in cinema. She came to film the way a lot of Louisville artists do: sideways, later, and only after realizing the thing she loved had been circling her for years.
“I just decided in 2022 that I wanted to work in film,” she says, matter-of-fact, like this was a reasonable mid-pandemic pivot and not a complete reroute of a life. “One of those ‘what am I doing with my life?’ moments.”
Fast-forward a couple of years and Weiner’s résumé reads like a crash course in what’s quietly been happening in Kentucky: major productions, name actors, real infrastructure, and a local crew that keeps getting the call back. She’s worked on Dead Man’s Wire, Wildcat, The Revisionist, Regretting You, and Synthetic. Sometimes she’s in the office. Sometimes she’s near set. And most often, she’s in accounting — a role she swears is “shockingly fun.”…
