JCPS board approves restructuring plan, hundreds of job cuts

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jefferson County Board of Education is moving forward with central office restructuring, cutting hundreds of school staff positions across the district.

During a special meeting called by the board, members voted 5-2 to move forward with restructuring central office employees. The vote was not unanimous, however. Board members James Craig and Taylor Everett opposed the move Friday night.

“We made the early promise that only central office would be affected without fully understanding that,” Craig said. “We said that the student experience would be protected, and I don’t see that happening. I don’t know that we could have, but the promise that we made hasn’t materialized. You don’t have my vote for it tonight.”…
