UofL equine professor comments on complaint that could limit betting on Churchill Downs races

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — New allegations have emerged claiming Churchill Downs has millions of dollars of outstanding fees. If they aren’t resolved, this could limit who can place bets on upcoming races, including the Kentucky Derby.

In a complaint filed Feb. 18, the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) said Churchill Downs Inc. (CDI) has refused to pay millions of dollars in 2025 assessment fees. HISA claims Churchill Downs has not paid for safety inspections and drug testing at its racetracks last year, totaling more than $2.4 million dollars and nearly $100,000 in interest fees.

But Churchill Downs argued any suggestion that it’s not supporting safety efforts is “inaccurate.”…
