Police: Suspect jumps from fourth-floor apartment after killing man, his dog

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKRC) – A man pleaded not guilty after he was charged with killing a Louisville man and his dog last week, per WAVE.

Police investigated a fourth-floor apartment in Old Louisville on Feb. 26 after the suspect, Charles Gerlach, jumped from the residence. Inside, they found another man dead and stuffed behind a mattress in a closet. The victim’s Chihuahua was dead in the sink.

Gerlach was detained and taken to the hospital. He’s since been released into Louisville Metro Corrections’ custody. Police say he admitted to stabbing the victim and moving his body “to get it out of the way,” as well as stabbing and drowning the dog…
