Floyd County fire territory expands, increasing service and taxes

FLOYD COUNTY, Ind — The Floyd County Fire Territory in Southern Indiana added another service area this week. The department will now serve the entire county essentially, once the calendar flips to 2027.

“The training, we’re starting to see our members train together. Our resources, we’re pooling them together, and it’s been great for the department,” Ned Wiseman said, the chief of the Floyd County Fire Territory.

In March 2025, the Georgetown Township Fire Protection District and New Albany Township Fire Protection District voted to merge together to create the territory.
