Jasper tax preparer sentenced to federal prison in fraud scheme

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A tax preparer from Jasper was sentenced to four years in federal prison after authorities say he orchestrated a multi-year tax fraud scheme that generated millions in fraudulent refunds.

Angel De La Rosa, 41, was also ordered to pay $15,005,149.83 in restitution for his role in the scheme. Yaimy Real, 34, of Louisville was also sentenced to three years in federal prison for the case and ordered to pay $15,019,543.84 in restitution.

Court documents say De La Rosa and Real operated a tax return preparation business “De La Rosa Multiservices” in Jasper and Louisville from January 2018 to July 2021. During that time, authorities say they prepared approximately 5,892 fraudulent tax returns and caused an estimated $10,577,612 in tax loss to the Internal Revenue Service…
