Last Friday, I was supposed to get tickets to see Leanne Morgan in Owensboro for my friends Emily, Katie, and Kelly. Guess. Who. Forgot. To. Get. Tickets…
It’s me. I’m the big failure. And they immediately sold out. I felt so bad, but they weren’t mad. In fact, Emily said, “Let me look in Nashville.” Turns out, Leanne is performing on her birthday, so we got tickets, and we are making a weekend of it. And honestly, that’s perfect because we NEED time away together.
Why Women Need Time Away Together
Facebook algorithm must have heard my lamenting because it fed me something I’d never even heard of before. Adult summer camp for women only. I had to dig in more.
Full disclosure, I never went to summer camp as a kid. Not even day camp. I am an extroverted introvert, meaning I can be the life of the party, emcee, leader chick, but I would rather just be at home with my dog. Even as a kid, my mom suggested I spend a few days at YMCA day camp, swimming and having fun with friends. I politely declined. I had a horse, pool, TV, and AC at home. Hundreds of screaming kids? No thanks.
Why Adult Summer Camp Actually Sounds Fun
But now that I’m older, I think going to summer camp would be so fun. My family took our camper to Prizer Point KOA a few summers ago at Kentucky Lake and it was like a summer camp for families. They had everything you can think of, from an in-lake inflatable obstacle course to games like basketball and tennis, to a pool, to a giant jump pad, and more. We had a BLAST. But I was still “mom.” I had to make food, force kids to wear sunscreen, make food, clean, make food, make sure no one died, make food, and oh yes, make food…
