Metro Council candidate faces federal fraud charges

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Betty Walker, also known as Betty Bailey, appeared in front of a federal judge Thursday. She filed to run for the Metro Council District 5 seat in January.

Prosecutors say Bailey was part of a scam involving loans that were supposed to be used to keep small businesses and the people who work for them afloat. Those funds came from a program Congress created during the worst of COVID.

According to a federal indictment, around March 26, 2021, Bailey applied for a PPP loan through a woman named Kaelynn Greene and was approved for more than $16,000. She paid Greene $2,500 for the help around April 9 and spent it on personal expenses…
