Kentucky Derby post positions revealed as Right to Party handed best spot for Triple Crown opener

The countdown for the 152nd annual Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, is officially one week away.

On Saturday, Churchill Downs assistant racing secretary Dan Bork and vice president Ben Huffman conducted the post position draw for the 2026 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The prestigious horse race — which Sovereignty and jockey Junior Alvarado won last year — has built a devoted following over the years, with attendees typically dressed in lavish suits, elegant dresses and elaborate hats for the storied event.

Traditionally staged on the first Saturday in May, the Kentucky Derby kicks off the Triple Crown series. The following races, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes, are slated for May 16 and June 6 of this year, respectively…
