Lubbock man arrested after robbery turns into armed road rage incident

LUBBOCK, Texas — Jerry Smith, 38, was arrested on several charges after he was accused of robbing a convenience store, threatening multiple individuals, including a U.S. Postal Service carrier, and engaging in a road rage incident involving a weapon.

A social media post by the Lubbock Police Department revealed that officers received a report to a convenience store near I-27 and 34th for a robbery that had occurred. Officers on scene learned that the suspect, identified as Jerry Smith, stole beer cases. After an employee began to follow him outside, Smith proceeded to point a gun at him. LPD officials say that after this incident, Smith proceeded to flee the scene in a yellow PT Cruiser and fled the scene. During his escape, Smith was involved in a road rage incident where he aggressively confronted a victim and pointed a gun at the victim’s face.

Lubbock authorities began investigating the incident and thanks to calls received by citizens regarding seeing his vehicle, Smith was located and taken into custody without incident. He is facing charges of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Fraud and Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant on a bond totaling $203,000…
