Lubbock man pleads guilty to possessing nearly 2000 grams of meth

LUBBOCK, Texas — Michael Taylor, 36, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute 500 Grams or More of Methamphetamine on Tuesday.

According to court documents, agents with the Caprock High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area used a confidential source to purchase methamphetamine from Taylor on May 4, 2026. The agents and source met with Taylor at the Carriage House motel, where he provided the source with around one ounce of what was claimed to be methamphetamine. The agents sent the suspected meth to the Drug Enforcement Administration for testing, which later confirmed it was meth with a purity of 98% and an actual weight of around 27 grams.

Based on these results from the DEA, Taylor was stopped by agents on U.S. Highway 84 in Lubbock County on his way back from the Dallas area on June 2, 2026. During this stop, a narcotics-detecting canine alerted agents that there were narcotics in the vehicle. After a search, they recovered a large amount of suspected meth from a purse belonging to a female passenger in Taylor’s vehicle.

Upon further testing, the substance was confirmed to be methamphetamine and weighed close to 1,872 grams and had a purity of 94%. Taylor later admitted to distributing the aforementioned 27 grams of meth to the source in May and also admitted to possessing the over 1,800 grams that were found in June, according to documents…
