LUBBOCK, Texas — For decades, drivers traveling Broadway through Lubbock have passed over bricks with a history dating back to the 1970 tornadoes.
Sandra Wimberly says her late father, a civil engineer who spent decades working in Lubbock County, helped put the bricks in the center of Broadway in 1994.
Wimberly says the bricks had been stored near the airport in poor condition. Her father’s crew cleaned thousands of them by hand before transporting them to Broadway and laying them in place.
